The impeachment notice on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.by Rivers State House of Assembly has been withdrawn.

In the notice of withdrawal read on the house floor, the lawmakers said the decision was made out of respect for the President.

This follows the sitting by about twenty-six lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning.

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu brokered a peace deal between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The tension in the state allegedly stems from a power struggle between the governor and Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The rift led to a split in the House of Assembly, with 27 lawmakers crossing party lines to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). It led to parallel sittings, an impeachment attempt on the governor, and even the demolition of the Assembly complex.

Monday’s meeting at the Aso Villa was attended by both Wike and Fubara. In the presence of President Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, both sides committed to withdrawing all court cases, among other concessions.

The lawmakers had on the 30th of October 2023, commenced impeachment proceedings on the governor, less than 24 hours after the house assembly complex was attacked
