.The Executive Secretary, Katsina State Scholarship Board, Dr Aminu Salisu Tsauri has applauded the efforts of Nigeria Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism in Nigeria.
Dr Aminu was full of praises to the Foundation for providing scholarship to the tune of twenty five million one hundred and fifty thousand naira, (N25, 150, 000:00) to some selected but indigent and bright students studying in 9 selected tertiary institutions in Katsina State.
A statement signed and issued by Salisu Lawal Kerau the Public Solutions Officer of Katsina Stste Scholarship Board said the scholarship will cover 130 students with cumulative grade points average (CGPA) of 2.50 and above drawn from Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Federal University Dutsinma, Alqalam University, Federal University Daura, HU Katsina Polytechnic, IKCOE Dutsinma, YBUCLGS Daura, Federal Polytechnic Daura and Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management.
Dr. Aminu spoke at an advocacy meeting organised by the Foundation with heads of some tertiary institutions in the State to workout modalities for the disbursement of the scholarship to the benefitting students.
According to the executive secretary, the gesture will no doubt compliment the efforts of the present administration under the able leadership of His Excellency the Governor of Katsina State Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD in bringing succour to the plight of indigent students of the state.
He said it is on record that the State Governor approved the sum of over six hundred and forty million naira recently to the state scholarship board for disbursement as scholarship allowances to fresh and continuing Students of Katsina State for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic session respectively.
In addition, the board introduced a laudable programme, first of its kind in the history of the board, captioned “Katsina State Government Award of Academic Excellence” where 210 Students with outstanding academic performance with cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.50 and 4.50, for Polytechnics & Colleges of Education and Universities respectively were awarded scholarship of N50,000:00 each.
The Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD, personally dashed each of the 210 students with N50,000:00 amounting to N10.5 million.
Earlier in her address, the leader of the team Hajiya Saudatu Mahadi, MFR, who represented the Chairman of the Foundation, Major General T.Y Danjuma, r.t.d, said the fund to be disbursed to some selected indigent students in selected tertiary institutions in the State, was sourced from wealthy and philanthropic Nigerians initiated by the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to support and alleviate the hardship and trauma experienced by victims of terrorism in Nigeria.
The activities of the foundation which spanned about 10 years now supported the victims of terrorism in the northeast in various ways. Now the foundation shifted to northwest to support Katsina State indigent students to pursue and actualize their academic dreams…
The meeting which was held at Alqalam University, had in attendance some Dons of tertiary institutions in the State and the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Higher, Yechnical and Vocational Education, Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed.
The benefitting institutions have been given the task of providing the data of the eligible students to benefit from the scholarship within a period of one week to the foundation for the commencement of the disbursement in earnest. The scholarship ranges from N100,000 to N350,000 per student with aspiration to cover all the 34 Local Government Areas in Katsina State.
