The Government of Lagos State, South West Nigeria has officially declared a comprehensive ban on street trading, hawking, and related activities across the state.
The ban is meant to fostering a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment, the Lagos State Government, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the announcement on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Wahab, said this initiative seeks to address several pressing issues, including curbing the activities of hawkers who engage in criminal activities by disguising themselves to rob motorists. It also aims to alleviate traffic congestion caused by street traders on highways and streets throughout the state.
As part of the enforcement strategy, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, commonly known as KAI, has been instructed to rigorously enforce compliance with environmental sanitation laws. This enforcement effort is set to ensure that the ban is adhered to effectively.
