Tribunal nullifies election of House of Reps member

The election and declaration of Ngozi Okolie of Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency under the Labour Party, LP in Delta State as member of the House of Representatives.has been invalidated by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting  in Asaba, Delta State.

The tribunal ruled, Monday that Okolie had not been a member of the Labour Party by May 28, 2022, the date of the primary election, and thus, he was not properly sponsored by the party.

As a result, the tribunal declared the runner-up in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly election, Ndudi Elumelu from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner.

Elumelu, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, had submitted his petition to the tribunal, requesting Okolie’s disqualification.

Okolie had previously been declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Kano Election Tribunal Upholds Victory Of Senator Rufa’i Hanga

In a related development, the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano has affirmed the election of Senator Rufa’i Hanga as the elected representative of the Kano Central Senatorial District.

Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023, senatorial election conducted in Kano Central, had challenged the Independent Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Hanga from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the election winner
