COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF SWAN NORTH WEST STAKEHOLDERS MEETING HELD 8TH JULY 2023 .AT SHABAN RESTAURANT AIRPORT ROAD KANO. THE AUGUST BODY IN SESSION HAVE RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
1.That the three years single term leadership period of the National Executive Committee, NEC of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria. SWAN given to Honour Sirawoo and his NEC members had ended in October 2022.
2. That Honour Sirawoo citing force majeur reasons, after the expiration of his tenure was granted three months grace by the Full Council in line with the provisions of the statues of the association, with the mandate to conduct elections and hand over power to a democratically elected NEC.
3.As at today, 8th July 2023, we hold that SWAN NEC under Mr Honour Sirawoo no longer posses the statutory and moral rights to preside over the affairs of the body, he and his NEC members should henceforth desist from presiding over the affairs of the association .
4.We call on the board of Trustees of the association to delve into the matter and take over the association and then proceed to set up an Interim Committee to normalize the activities of the association to save the current situation from further degenerating.
5.We express total loss of confidence in the 2023 election body , SWANECO, the results of the screening exercise carried out by SWANECO , is visibly and reasonably soaked in vested political interest as against carrying out a noble duty discreetly , in the spirit of our laws.
6.SWANECO has exhibited abuse of powers by also assuming the status of an Appeal body in a case , where it is the words of the candidates and those state chapters that were not cleared against SWANECO, this is not justice and can not stand the test of any law.
7. We denounce the striping of some state chapters of their rights to attend the congress and vote under the guise of financial obligations, this precedence is unacceptable and is condemned by us , to the pit of abyss.
8. We want to state categorically that working with sports bodies as members of SWAN is trite and precedence proves it worthy, in the development of sports and any moves against sports journalists working with sports association or other sports bodies under any guise is retrogressive, reprehensible and excommunicated.
How can a member working in the scholarship office head SWAN, but media officer of a football club can not vie for position in SWAN, this defy common sense and reasoning.
9.We call for an immediate convergence of a national consultative meeting, where all SWAN stakeholders will meet to deliberate and fashion out how to move the association forward by setting up a caretaker committee or organize a free, fair and credible election.
10. We want to state without ambiguity that we will not go to Omoku, in Rivers state for the 2023 National Triennial Congress and elections, we clamor for a national meeting of the association on a neutral ground, suggestively , FCT Abuja, Lagos, Ilorin or Enugu.
