Gov Masari flags off construction of 75 schools in Katsina

The   Katsina State Government has flagged of the construction of 75 junior and senior secondary schools for implementation of Adolescent Girls Initiative in Learning and Empowerment across the state, Tuesday in Katsina.

Speaking at the event the governor said this was the first phase of the project, saying another set of 75 schools would also be constructed later

AGILE is being supported by the World Bank and the state government with a target to construct 150 schools, comprising 90 junior and 60 senior secondary schools, in order to positively touch the lives and wellbeing of the people of the state.

“One of the policy structures of the present administration, as contained in our restoration agenda, was the provision of qualitative education for the people of Katsina State.

“We thank Allah that, within the period of our stewardship, we were able to develop and turnaround the education sector in the state.

“We rehabilitated and constructed many schools, and provided learning materials, aimed at providing conducive teaching and learning environment. e added that the target is to construct 150 schools in the entire plan; comprising  90 Junior Secondary Schools and 60 Senior Secondary Schools across the 34 local councils of the state.

” We thanked Allah that within a period of our stewardship, we were able to develop and turn around education to the best in the history of Katsina State. We started with an assessment of infrastructures, facilities and manpower development across the state. After which we swung into action by rehabilitating and renovating main primary and secondary schools across the state to succeed in providing conducive learning environment.

“We also recruited many qualified teachers, procured and distributed teaching and learning materials to schools and colleges of the state, in addition to training and retraining teachers for both primary and secondary schools.”

Earlier, the AGILE coordinator, Mustapha Shehu explained that the initiative would reduce the distance children travel to school and assist the students in the transition process from Junior to Senior Secondary School.
