Nestle Milo Basketball Championship: KTSG appreciates participants

The Honourable Commissioner of Education Assoc. Professor Badamasi Lawal has commended the effort of Katsina State students who participated in the just concluded Savannah Conference 23rd Edition of Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball  Championship competition held at  Indoor Hall of Sani Abacha stadium Kano.

The Honourable Commissioner made the commendation today while receiving the trophy, certificates and other consolation prizes won by the Katsina State team.

This is contained in a release signed and issued to newsmen in Katsina by the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Sani Danjuma Suleiman.

Prof Badamasi Lawal expressed happiness for the team participation and their emergence as the most fair play team above all.

While stressing the importance of Sports as an extra- curricular activity, the Honourable Commissioner advised the students to always show and remained disciplined whereever they might have found themselves as good ambassadors of the state.

He further called on the students to stay away from drug abuse and cultism in order to progress in life and be useful members of the society.

He also thanked Kastina State AGILE  SPC Dr Mustapha shehu for all the support and commitment towards the development of Sporting activities across the State.

The Assistant Director sports of the Ministry  Alhaji Lawal Bako Fago,while presenting the trophy, certificates and other consolation prizes,  revealed that, the participants were drawn from Sir Usman Nagogo College of Arabic and Islamic Studies (SUNCAIS), Government Girl Secondary School Dutsen Safe, Government Girls Secondary School Rimaye, Family Support Secondary School Katsina, Government Girls Unity secondary school Jibia and  Government Girls Secondary School Shema.

He added that Katsina State team received fair play trophy as a result of the state commitment as the only state that present genuine school students at the competition and as such the state received a lot of commendation by Nestle Milo sports organizers.

In his remarks, Dr Mustapha Shehu, Katsina State project coordinator Adolescent Girls Initiative For Learning And Empowerment (AGILE) informed the Honourable Commissioner that, the project is set to construct 188 Basketball and Badminton courts across 188 Schools in the utilization of the large grants given to schools to boost sporting activities.

The Coordinator added that, even last year in October, the project sponsored and conducted school sports festival across the 3 Senatorial zone of the state in commemoration of International Day of the Girls-Child,  with the aim of catching them young in sports and pledges to sponsor more number of sports competition withing and outside the state.
