The Federal Government o Nigeria is making “tremendous progress” in rescuing stranded Nigerians caught up in the conflict-hit Sudan.
This was disclosed by theC hairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa while speaking on the Monday edition of Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics. Dabiri-Erewa revealed that Nigerian students in Sudan now have a point of contact, which is a major step forward in their evacuation.
She explained that buses will transport the students to a location in Egypt, such as Luxor or another suitable place. It’s fantastic to hear that the Nigerian government is taking swift action to ensure the safe return of its citizens. Dabiri-Erewa credited President Buhari for giving his immediate nod to the evacuation plan.
The NIDCOM boss also highlighted the dangers faced by Nigerian students who have left their universities without authorization. She warned against mobilization efforts by the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) to pool funds to transport Nigerian students away from their campuses. Dabiri-Erewa cautioned that moving them from one danger zone to another would be pointless and could endanger their lives.
It’s heartening to see the Nigerian government prioritizing the safety of its citizens and taking swift action to evacuate them from Sudan. Let’s hope that the evacuation process continues smoothly and that all Nigerian students in the country return home safely
