A female primary school teacher has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a primary four school pupil in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, Mr Mohammed Shatambaya, Police public relations officer, confirmed the incident to the media
“Yes, the case is with the police and the teacher was arrested. We are doing a thorough and objective investigation on the matter, and later refer it to court,” he said.
“The incident happen in Golden Olive Academy Maiduguri.
The father of the victim was quoted saying “The teacher usually put my daughter inside her veil and force the girl to suck her breast, while inserting her finger in my daughter’s private part,” he said.
On how he ascertained that the toddler was raped, he said “the mother discovered it while bathing her, she started complaining of pains in her private part, but first ignored it thinking it’s normal.
“When the complaints persisted, the mother noticed blood in her urine, and called my attention to it. We took her to hospital where a Doctor advised us to investigate what happened,” he said.
But he expressed concern that giving how the case is being handled, justice might not be served.
“All I needed from the authority is justice, so that this can be deterrent to those who may want to do something similar” he added
When contacted, the Borno State coordinator of National Human Right Commission, Jummai Usman Mshelia, said the case has been reported to her.
“Teachers in the school were paraded and the pupil pointed at the particular teacher,” she said.
She said the teacher was alleged to be in the habit of distributing chocolates to the pupils, “And, it was alleged that the teacher used the same bait to lure the pupil
